About igFont

igFont is a small, independent tool site. One job: turn plain text into Unicode styles you can paste into a social profile.

What this site is

igFont is a free browser-based text styler. You type a word or a short phrase, it returns that text rendered in more than one hundred and sixty Unicode styles, and you copy whichever one you like. There is no account system, no dashboard, no subscription and no stored history. The conversion runs in your browser with JavaScript; nothing you type is transmitted to us.

Why it exists

Instagram does not offer a font selector. Every profile, caption and comment uses the same typeface, which is a deliberate design decision by the platform. People who want a different look have always used Unicode characters instead, and for years the only way to get them was to hunt through blog posts full of broken code and dead copy buttons.

This site is the version we wanted to use: one input, every style visible at once, click to copy, no registration wall. It does one thing and it does it without a funnel.

How it works, technically

The Latin alphabet has several complete sets of styled characters in Unicode — mathematical bold, italic, script, fraktur, double-struck, sans-serif variants and monospace. Each of those is a separate block of code points with the same letter ordering as A–Z. Converting text is therefore a matter of adding a fixed offset to each character and handling the handful of code points that Unicode placed outside their block for historical reasons.

Styles that cannot be expressed as a block, such as small caps or superscript, are built from lookup tables of phonetic and Latin Extended characters. Effects like strikethrough and underline are produced by appending combining marks rather than substituting characters, which is why they can render differently across operating systems.

We keep the same mapping in two places: PHP renders the initial page so it has real content before any script runs, and JavaScript takes over as soon as you start typing. If the two ever disagree, the site is broken, so they are treated as a single unit when changes are made.

What this site does not do

  • It does not store, log or transmit the text you type.
  • It does not require an account, an email address or a sign-in.
  • It does not claim to install fonts — nothing is installed, ever.
  • It is not affiliated with Instagram, Meta, TikTok or any other platform.
  • It does not sell user data, because it does not collect any.

How the site is funded

Hosting costs money and the tool is free to use, so the site carries advertising through Google AdSense. Ads are served by Google, not by us; we do not see or store individual user data from them. The privacy policy and cookie policy describe exactly what that involves.

Corrections and contact

The guides on this site are written to be accurate rather than long. If you find something that is wrong — a broken character mapping, a platform rule that has changed, a claim that no longer holds — tell us and it will be fixed. The contact page has the address.
